Yes actually, I am finding the combat balance is weighted heavily in favor of the players. I have always played somewhat improvisationally with the rules set, so maybe I am doing something wrong, but it takes quite a bit to challenge a party. Most of the monsters in my experience with the playtest (all versions) have pathetically low armor classes and few bonuses.

This TPK was a bit different though - a kobold behind a stone door with a wand of lightning bolt is no typical first level encounter :)

I'm a tad worried about combat balance with DnDnext. Seems they have gone with guidelines and just made the assumption that any fight can go sour. One thing I liked about 4E was the predictability with combat design (I know I could get an easy/tough fight with X monsters). Are you finding this much an issue with DnDnext? Maybe I just need to make a mental shift DMing.

Hey, what is a 'fightress"? I've never seen that creature in the Monster Manual. In addition to me (a bardress (sounds like something bards wear--or is that barding? No only centaurs bards wear that--or centauresses)) there's a paladinette in my group.

Hey there lowly minion (and any other international gamers who are interested) I don't know how to fix the crazy int'l shipping on ebay, but if you skip ebay and pay directly through paypal (teambarnes (at) gmail.com) add $3 (for a total 8.99) and I will ship it anywhere in the world. Thanks for your interest!

here is the best paper. change the paper size back and forth to get horizontal or vertical styles. the 4 point red gives a great light grey for my laser printer, might not be so good on a bubblejet.

Hey everyone, thanks for the great response. It is always good to see proof that there are people out there reading this blog.I am going to be printing and binding these booklets this weekend, and will be able to mail out review copies sometime next week, so it might be a few days yet. Please hold tight.

If your email address is in the message here, I will drop you a line in the next few days, otherwise shoot me an email at teambarnes (AT) gmail.com so we can get this organized.

One more thing, these booklets are PHYSICAL copies, not pdf's, so I will need addresses to mail them. Hopefully it will just be a stamp or two. If you are in the Kansas City area, we can meet up or something.

Right now I am working on "Level 0: Deadrock and the Pillaged Demesne of the Evil Overlord" which gives a small outdoor setting surrounding the fortress and also has simple rules for starting out as level zero characters to be playtested tomorrow night, so stay tuned!
